Shields in Deep Dish Dungeon

Equip a shield to block some attacks: an Iron Shield appears in a Wooden Chest in the Queen’s room behind the dining hall golden door.

Find the Iron Shield

In WorldOfVods’ full-game recording, a Wooden Chest in the room with the Queen’s skeleton contains an Iron Shield, a Long Sword and a Grinding Stone.

The skeletons can rise when the Queen’s Crown is taken. The recording predates the 1.0.50.0 update and does not identify its exact build or platform.

  1. Go to the dining hall with the offering table and golden door.
  2. Place Bean Soup, Stew and Cooked Veggies on the three stands to open the door.
  3. Enter the room behind it and check the Wooden Chest by the skeletons. Move the Iron Shield into your item bar.

Equip and block

Select the shield from the item bar and use the block control shown for your setup. Developer Saulo Camarotti describes holding a shield up to block some enemy attacks.

In the Iron Shield recording, its tooltip says blocking transfers damage to stamina. Keep an eye on your stamina rather than assuming a block is free. Patch 1.0.50.0 distinguishes the shield’s passive effect while equipped from its active effect while blocking.

Shield versus armor

A shield offers a blocking action; armor is carried in the main item bar for its protection. Both need room in the bar, so decide what else to carry before a fight.

The sources do not establish the combined damage calculation for every shield and armor pairing. Read the effects displayed on your own items rather than adding percentages together as a guaranteed result.
