Deep Dish Dungeon Axe and Hatchet

The Axe is at the far end of a lit cave branching off the crypt’s spiral stairs. Pick it up, equip it and use it to chop through Roots blocking passages and chests. Look for the inventory name Axe when following a guide that calls it a hatchet.

Find the Axe near the crypt stairs

Yamamaru Niki’s walkthrough takes the player from the sewer route into the mine, then to the crypt entrance near a large shortcut door. The Axe is in a lit cave branching off the descending spiral stairs.

This route follows the October walkthrough, which does not specify its game build.

  1. Set the sewer fuse switches up and take the boat through the door into the mine. Follow the uphill route toward the large shortcut door.
  2. Enter the crypt area near that door and start down the spiral staircase.
  3. Take the side passage into the cave with light shining in and continue to the Axe at its far end.
  4. Pick it up and check the item name in your inventory. Twilight’s recording shows the Axe in the inventory after the cave pickup.

Use the Axe on Roots

Select the Axe in your item bar, move within reach of the brown Roots and strike them until the obstruction breaks. Use the Roots name and health bar to identify the target rather than swinging at the surrounding stone.

The crypt walkthrough places a Grinding Stone chest behind roots near the Axe. Another root-blocked route in the cave leads to a chest containing a Snake Statue and a Mace. Return to branches you passed before finding the tool.

If you cannot get through, check that the Axe is selected, aim at the Roots and watch whether the target’s health bar changes. A root obstruction and a Goo Pile need different tools; use the Pickaxe for goo.

Is the Hatchet a different item?

The item shown on this route is labelled Axe. A separate Hatchet location is not confirmed, so use the Axe label when checking your inventory and recipes.

The developers’ October 20 update includes the Axe among tools craftable at a Workbench. If yours is missing, check the Workbench for a replacement and use the ingredients displayed in your current build.

Questions

Do I need the Axe to clear Goo Piles?

Use the Pickaxe for Goo Piles. The Axe clears Roots, including root-blocked paths near the crypt.

Where should I look if I missed the Axe?

Return to the crypt’s descending spiral stairs and take the side passage into the cave with light shining in. The pickup is at the far end of that cave.
