THE FIELD GUIDE / GUIDE
How to Break Roots in Deep Dish Dungeon
Use the Axe to chop through the root barriers blocking passages in Deep Dish Dungeon; one Axe can be found in a cave off the crypt spiral staircase. The route comes from October 2026 player reports and a guide; their exact builds and platforms are not specified.

Recognize the obstacle
These are the roots growing across a route or covering a chest, including roots near the crypt Axe and on the way to the Corn Gem. Once chopped away, the blocked passage or chest can be reached.
Patch 1.0.50.0 also removed collision from small decorative roots in the Temple. That change does not identify every decorative plant as a cuttable route barrier.
Follow the route to the Axe
If you do not have the Axe, the documented route goes from the spider prison back into the sewers, then through the mine toward the crypt.
A player who found the Axe also described lowering the sewer water with the high cranks and a Grappling Hook. If you seem unable to drain the route, look above as well as at floor level.
The official 1.0.51.0 notes add a Pickaxe recipe to the Workbench. The notes do not give the ingredients, so check the recipe in your game.
- Open the prison route and obtain the Pickaxe there. Return to the sewers and clear the Goo Pile blocking the next hatch.
- Work through the sewer water controls and the boat mechanism. With the sewer fuse switches set up, take the boat through the upper route to the mine.
- Continue uphill through the mine and find the crypt entrance near the large door that can be unlocked as a shortcut to the hub.
- On the crypt spiral stairs, take the side passage into the cave lit from above. The Axe is farther inside; the nearby root barrier provides a place to use it.
