Deep Dish Dungeon Weapon Upgrades and Maximum Level

Use the Forge Anvil to upgrade weapons. A Short Sword reaches +1 with 5 Scrap Metal and 2 Wood Planks; a recorded Knight’s Blade upgrade from +1 to +2 uses 5 Scrap Metal and 1 Grinding Stone. Weapons can reach at least +3, as shown by a Long Sword +3. Check your own anvil menu before spending materials.

How to upgrade a weapon

Use the Forge Anvil in the hub-side room. Put a weapon in the station’s Weapon slot to display its next recipe. The item’s current + number tells you which upgrade you are preparing; a plain weapon and a +1 weapon do not necessarily ask for the same materials.

The anvil is not limited to swords: crab’s recording also shows Wooden Bow and Club upgrades. A Silver Dagger appears in WorldOfVods’ anvil menu with the same 5 Scrap Metal and 2 Wood Planks first-step recipe.

  1. Take the weapon you want to improve to the Forge Anvil and open the station.
  2. Place that weapon in the Weapon slot. Read the ingredients shown for this weapon and its current level.
  3. Bring the required materials and fill the ingredient slots as the station requests. For the recorded first Short Sword upgrade, this is 5 Scrap Metal and 2 Wood Planks.
  4. Start the upgrade and let its progress finish. Retrieve the weapon and check that its name now shows the higher + level.
  5. Put the upgraded weapon back in the slot to inspect the next recipe before collecting more materials. Leave room in your inventory when taking it back.

Upgrade material costs: +1, +2 and +3

Use these full-game examples to plan an upgrade, then confirm the recipe on your own weapon. The Short Sword +1 and Knight’s Blade +2 upgrades are shown completing; the Long Sword +3 is visible in inventory, without its final upgrade process.

The next prompt after crab’s Short Sword +1 also shows 5 Scrap Metal and a Grinding Stone. Older Windows demo v1013 tables list different later-tier scrap amounts, so use the live anvil recipe rather than treating a demo table as the full-game price list.

Finding a Grinding Stone for the next upgrade

When the anvil asks for a Grinding Stone, check the sewer route around the rising and falling water. Yamamaru Niki’s walkthrough records one in a chest after the sleeping bag and bridge, before the iron door.

Another chest is recorded behind the roots beside the Axe in the crypt-side cave. Pick up the Axe at the end of that branch, cut the blocking roots and check the chest behind them.

Keep a stone with your upgrade supplies, but read the recipe before committing it. The one-stone cost above belongs to the observed Knight’s Blade +1 to +2 upgrade, not a promise that every weapon and tier costs the same.

Is +3 the maximum weapon upgrade?

A Long Sword +3 confirms that at least this weapon can reach +3 in the full game. A universal +3 hard cap for every item, and the exact cost of the +2-to-+3 step, remain unconfirmed.

To check your next step, place your upgraded weapon in the Forge Anvil and read what the station offers. That is more useful for your current weapon than budgeting an assumed final-tier cost. The recorded +3 sword does not establish a damage multiplier, so compare the weapon’s own displayed stats as you upgrade.

If an upgrade fails or disappears

If the station will not start, recheck the weapon slot and the displayed ingredients before gathering extra scrap. After it finishes, retrieve the weapon and inspect its + level. Choose a weapon you intend to keep using: there is no confirmed upgrade-refund procedure to rely on.

Keep the game updated when moving upgraded weapons between inventories. Steam patch 1.0.50.0 fixed weapons resetting to their base version when dropped while transferring to a full inventory. It also introduced a last-good-world-save backup for load failures; that backup is not an upgrade refund or a promise to restore an earlier lost level.
